VA State trooper injured due to accident involving DUI driver.
July 2020 – A Virginia State Police officer sustained minor physical injuries, right after his patrol car was hit by a drunk driver. The trooper was sitting inside his vehicle while working on an ongoing investigation of a collision on Interstate 395 at about 4:20 am in the Springfield area, when a jeep suddenly hit the back of his vehicle. The at fault driver was a 32-year old man who was detained and arrested right away and.is currently being held at the Fairfax Adult Detention Center, on DUI charges. Thankfully, the trooper’s injuries were not life threatening and he has now been released from Fairfax Inova Hospital, where he was treated.
This is one of over 500 DUI-related crashes in Northern Virginia to be reported since last January, with 15 fatal occurrences. To put this number in perspective, in 2015, over 10,000 people in the U.S. were killed by drunk drivers. That’s one crash every 51 seconds.
