National Park Service Faces Wrongful Death Claim

National Park Service Faces Wrongful Death ClaimNovember 13, 2020:  According to the Associated Press, the National Park Service is facing a whopping $270 million wrongful death claim from a tragic accident that occurred at Arches National Park in Utah.  Esther Nakjjigo and her husband Ludovic Michaud were in their vehicle when an unsecured metal gate thrust closed with such massive force, that it ripped through their car, decapitating Esther.

Esther was a prominent women’s rights activist originally from Uganda.  She and her husband, Ludovic, were celebrating their wedding anniversary at the time.

Ludovic is seeking $240 million in damages and Esther’s parents are asking for an additional $30 million.

According to details in the wrongful death claim, the gate was secured by only a “flimsy metal tab.”  They are claiming that it was negligence on the part of the Park to not have a better lock to secure the gate.

Ludovic and Esther’s parents attorney, Deborah Chang, noted that the National Park Service has known that these sharp gates were known to swing into the road.
