With the arrival of summer comes the need to cool off, which is why people start heading towards pools and water parks. Water parks are theme parks that feature many fun rides such as water play areas, water slides, lazy rivers and other water amusements.   • Contaminated Water:

E.coli, Crypto, and parasites can lurk in water, posing many health hazards. Water is a breeding ground for bacteria, and not all water park authorities maintain proper water quality standards.  This can pose a huge threat to children and adults alike.

  • Faulty Equipment or Machinery:

Rusty equipment and machinery also pose a great deal of danger.  Waterslides and the number one cause of injuries in water parks with the most common being lacerations, bone damage, concussion and spinal injuries. 

  • Drowning

Sadly, drownings can and do occur at water parks.  It’s imperative that before choosing a ride for yourself or for your child, you pay attention to the weight and size restrictions and are confident of the child’s swim level.  Also, be aware that a lifeguard may not always be on duty.

  • Slipping and Falling:

Finally, the most common injuries include slipping and falling, which can result in back  and neck injuries, all of which can lead to serious consequences.

Each year, approximately 4,200 people are injured at water parks.

Who Is Responsible for Waterpark Injuries?

The most common type of claim made is for negligence against the park itself.  It is the responsibility of the water park to provide a reasonable standard of care and safety for the entire operation.  If there is evidence that due to the park’s negligence, the injury occurred, legal action may be taken.
